Mr. and Mrs. G had told me at their family photography planning & design meeting that their 5-year old son HATES to be photographed and always hides from the camera. So I knew that my assistant and I would really have to focus on him and cajole him into cooperation.
Sure enough, at the beginning of their studio family portraits at our Clarksburg photography studio, little G refused to come out of the bathroom. When he finally emerged and we sat him down in the studio area, he cried and hid his face in his dad's chest. But then, out came our talking stuffed animals (voiceovers courtesy of my awesome assistant) and both kids began to smile and laugh. And that broke the ice! From then on, we smoothly sailed through the family portrait session, emerging with a host of relaxed, personality-filled studio family portraits that this Northern Virginia family will cherish for generations to come!
Does your child hate being photographed?
Have no fear! Our family photographer & assistant are here!
(Plus, it's oh so very cold out there.
Come in from the cold to our Maryland photography studio!)
Melissa's family was visiting Rockville for the holidays, and so the five of them came in from the cold for holiday family portraits in our Germantown photography studio. While Melissa's siblings and parents wanted digital files from their holiday family photography session to create their own memories, Melissa really wanted a love grouping of metal prints to hang on the wall of her home. Check out the finished grouping! The largest wall portrait is 20x30 in size, and the others are 8x12, 12x12, and 8x12. Will your parents, children, or other family be home for the holidays?
I first met Steve playing in a local racquetball tournament last year, where he happened to ref two of my matches. By chance, I ended up switching gyms to his, and we became racquetball buddies and tournament partners. When we first met, he was always talking about his two kids, and eventually, he began asking about scheduling a family photography session for the three of them. So here we were in early fall wandering Sugarloaf Mountain in Dickerson, Maryland with the family dog, Bella.
I really wanted to take this North Potomac, MD family up to the top of the mountain to enjoy what I hoped would be a beautiful sunset. And indeed, my three favorite images from their fall family pictures had the early evening sun highlighting their hair with a beautiful orange glow in the background. Simply gorgeous!
The War's 2019 fall family photography album, which features a vintage leather cameo cover and premium inside papers was done just in time for Steve's birthday, and we'll be posting photos of the finished photo album soon! And still in progress... three custom-framed wall portrait collages of the kids, and, even better, three large custom-framed portraits on fine art canvas, with the largest one a painting made from their portrait! (Stay tuned!) Plus, the slideshow we made from their images had Steve's family clamoring for prints, so those are under production too!
Here in Maryland, we're just starting to move from high fall color into peak color, and in Virginia, peak color will come later than in Maryland. And what does this mean for you?
It's still not too late for the fall family pictures you've been dreaming of.
Jasper & Kiki didn't have a professional wedding photographer, so more than a decade after their wedding, in celebration of their wedding anniversary, we set off to Old Town Alexandria, Virginia to recreate the beautiful bridal portraits and wedding portraits they never had. Then they chose their favorite 34 wedding photos for a custom-designed, 14-page storybook wedding photography album featuring a timeless fine art canvas cover and deep matte inside pages, along with one image that we printed as a 16x24 size canvas gallery wrap to hang in their home. Simply beautiful!

The S family ended up selecting six of their favorite fall family photos from our Sugarloaf Mountain family photography session for us to print for them as canvas gallery wraps! Destined to hang above a sofa, your fall family photos can be a great way to add a pop of color, in this case red, to an otherwise neutral room. The largest canvas size in the S's love grouping is 24x36, with the entire grouping spanning 85-89 inches depending on how much space is left between canvases.
