When Laura first called us to chat about a studio family photography session, she mentioned that she loved the room view feature that she read about on our "Portraiture as Heirloom Home Decor" page. (The room view feature is when you send us photos of rooms you might like to hang your family portraits in, and then after your family photography session, we can drag and drop your favorite family portraits onto your room photos, change sizes, add frames, make groupings, etc., to show you all the different possibilities before they exist!)
"Our previous family photographer (before we moved here to Springfield, VA) helped us understand the importance of wall art, and not allowing our family portraits to 'die' on a computer because they're only digital. But when it comes to hanging photographs, I'm always second guessing what things will look like. In our previous house, a friend who was an interior designer put up a collage wall for us, because I don't have a designer bone in my body. That's why in our new house, we don't currently have any family photography on the walls. This is why I love that you can help us with this with the room view feature!"
Laura sent us photos of two rooms. They wanted one love grouping for the TV room and a second grouping for the kids' playroom. Check out their final wall art love groupings below from their winter family photography session at our Maryland photography studio! You can also view more photos from their family photography session here.
And many thanks to Laura for writing this awesome 5-star review of our family photography services on Thumbtack!
"This will be our first professional family photography session since our wedding," Valerie and Robert said at our planning & design meeting. "We're a blended family with two children, ages 14 and 30." One of Robert's biggest complaint about the typical photographs of himself was that he looks too dark, so lighting was extra important to him. And as a professional family photographer, I must agree that light makes or breaks a photograph!
"I don't want to go anywhere for this family photography session. I want to do it at our home... indoors and outdoors... We even have an art gallery in our home," he continued. And so we planned their fall family pictures for their home in McLean, Virginia. Robert was right... it was a beautiful location for a family photography session! Enjoy some of our favorite fall family pictures below, and many thanks to Valerie for the fantastic review of our family photography services on Consumer's Checkbook!
"Hello! I'm in need of both professional headshots for LinkedIn and online dating pictures... What photos do exist of me are either not current or are not as flattering as I would like them to be, and I lack the necessary talent for quality selfies," Lynn wrote.
Once we connected on the phone, Lynn explained that she had been looking at professional photographers, but simply couldn't find many whose quality of website and photography piqued her interest. It had just been a few weeks earlier that a friend told her that she had gotten professional online dating pictures and suggested that she do the same. It hadn't previously occurred to her to look for an online dating photographer, but once she thought about it, she realized that she also needed new professional headshots for business.
"I usually run from the camera - I don't like having my picture taken mostly because I don't think I'm photogenic, and I usually don't like pictures of myself," Lynn confessed.
(Little did she know at the time that my specialty as an online dating photographer and headshot photographer is exactly that - creating portraits that people love when they usually don't like photos of themselves at all!)
As we brainstormed about creative ideas for her online dating pictures, a few themes came up. Lynn would be going on a yoga cruise retreat in Iceland the week after our photography session, and envisioned yoga being a big part of her life moving forward. She also really enjoys cooking and wine, and is into the wine-tasting scene. And so it came to be that some of her online dating pictures would be created in the kitchen of our Maryland photography studio, with wine glass in hand. And that another would be created with a yoga theme. Enjoy just a few of the fruits of our labor below! And thanks so very much to Lynn for writing this awesome 5-star review of our professional headshot and online dating pictures services on Yelp!
This was our third time photographing Mr. Silver-Haired Cutie (...and our fourth time photographing his dad). From the time they found out they were expecting a baby, this cutie's mom & dad knew they wanted to capture his fleeting, once-in-a-lifetime, preciously priceless baby moments, especially in these first years when he would be growing and changing so fast. And so before he even arrived, they enrolled in one of our baby photography plans, and we have been watching Mr. Silver-Haired Cutie grow since his newborn photography session at 8 days new!
We had done Mr. Silver-Haired Cutie's previous baby photography session outdoors at Glenview Mansion in Rockville, MD, and this time, his mom & dad chose an indoor studio family photography session. We got on the phone a month or two before his session to brainstorm creative ideas and our imaginations ran wild. We decided on a fall theme with pumpkins and autumn decor to then be transformed into a "Rock Star" Halloween theme, non-themed family portraits on dad's favorite leather burgundy sofa with an orange-tan damask backdrop, and ending with a periwinkle-toned signature "Little Artist Paint Smash."
And on the day of their family photography session, they arrived with a 'rock star' Halloween outfit complete with rock star t-shirt, air guitar, guitar necklace, and best of all, spiked blue hair! I love those Halloween family photos, but most of all, I love the Little Artist Paint Smash photos! Afterwards, his mom commented on how much fun he'd had during this family photography session - particularly the paint smash - as he loves making messes! In fact, I loved that paint smash so much that in honor of Mr. Silver-Haired Cutie, we've now introduced signature 30-minute studio paint smash photography sessions for you too! You can choose either a full (1-hour) family photography session with a paint smash component like this family, or a 30-minute paint smash only photography session.
Check back next year, as I can't wait for Mr. Silver-Haired Cutie's Watch Me Blossom family photography session coming up in 2018!
And in the meantime, many thanks to Mr. Silver-Haired Cutie's mom for her awesome 5-star google review of our photography services!
Each year your children age, the memories of the previous year become ever more precious. By the time your children have grown, married, and have families of their own, the memories of their childhood have become absolutely priceless.
I originally met Juliet Mandler of Everyday Events LLC - wedding & event planner extraordinaire - more than a year earlier when she was helping one of her engaged couples in their search for their wedding photographer. Seven months later, we were both working booths at a community vendor fair, and Juliet happened to see one of my business cards with an environmental portrait of a home remodeler on the back. "Do you do business portraits?" she asked. "I like my old headshot, but I want to replace it with something current," she explained.
Some months later, another e-mail from Juliet popped into my inbox:
"I want to have an [in-studio headshot] image where somewhere in the background (if it works out this way, on a table) is a table setting that I will create. Have you ever done this before? I would love to talk more, but am off site for a wedding today and tomorrow. I'll touch base with you next week."
When we did speak on the phone, she described her vision further.
"The logo for my event & wedding planning business is gold and teal. I want to incorporate those colors and the feel of my brand into my headshots. I will start thinking about some kind of table design to be in the background..."
In the end, we decided to set up in the dining room of our Clarksburg, Maryland photography studio, which has a photogenic wood table and buffet and green walls to match her brand colors. Notice the gold glow in the background of her business portraits? On the floor and hidden behind the buffet is a light with an orange gel (a sheet of orange plastic) covering it. The light is pointed upwards along the wall to look like uplighting that you'd see at a wedding, and the orange color of the gel mixes with the green paint of the wall to make the light gold color that you see there. I love that I was able to make the colors go perfectly with the teal and gold of her brand!
We began with her standing, then sitting in front of the table on a chair for a more formal business portrait. Then... creativity unleashed! Juliet got to work doing exactly what she does best: taking a hodge podge of table settings and accent decor items and turning them into a feast of beauty and color!
Everyday Events LLC makes every celebration memorable, fun, and worry-free! Do you have something extra-special to celebrate? Visit Every Day Events LLC online here, and take the stress out of planning! And finally, a fun tidbit: I also learned that Juliet and her brother are former competitive ballroom dancers, and Everyday Events also offers dance lesson packages!
