"I would like to have fall family pictures done. My son is 10 and my daughter is 2 and I have never had family pictures done. I would love to capture this moment in our life forever!" Coral wrote.
When we connected on the telephone, she explained further:
"I didn't find that many family photographers. I saw lots of photography studios like JC Penney and Sears. I don't want to go to them. I want an actual family photographer. I see gorgeous family pictures on Facebook all the time of the perfect family outdoors. The whole JC Penney studio photography thing of a family sitting in front of a column is so 1980s. I want the real thing.
I looked at your website, and your family photography is absolutely stunning. I hate pictures of myself, which is why I've been so hesitant to go somewhere to have family pictures, but I looked at all your reviews and read how happy families have been with you."
When I asked what she would like to do with these fall family pictures... how she would like to enjoy them day after day... she said:
"We don't have that much wall space in our home, but I would love to hang some family pictures above our family room couch, as well as give prints to family members."
It was just a few weeks later that I got to meet Coral, her husband, and the two kids, Ethan & Averi, for their fall family pictures planning & design meeting. 10-yr old Ethan wowed me with his comedic talent, and of course, as a family photographer, I totally loved how excited he was at the prospect of being photographed. His specific request was to have individual portraits of himself doing "cool poses with a serious expression." He was sure to make everyone laugh, including his little sister, Averi, on the day of!
Last year, for Averi's 1st birthday photos, they had attempted cake smash photography. Averi wasn't into it last year, but Coral thought she would love it this year, for her 2nd birthday. And it was perfect timing because Averi had just turned a very precocious 2! All we needed to do was reserve the last 15-20 minutes of their fall family pictures session for cake smash photography!
We looked at a number of potential locations for their fall family pictures session, and in the end, settled on Sugarloaf Mountain in Dickerson, MD, which was Ethan's favorite location because of the large rocks. We ended up with a beautiful fall day, and everything was just perfect! Enjoy some of my favorites from their fall family pictures & cake smash photography session!
The first time we photographed this family was in 2015 when they had just moved to Maryland and Noemi's big brother, Noah, was an only child. Our Manassas fall family photography session with Noah was a blast, so I was super excited when just a few months later, I got the news that Noah's mom was expecting again. It was at their Wheaton maternity photography session that I first met little Noemi - of course, still in mom's belly at the time - and then we finally got to see her ten little fingers and toes at her ten-day newborn photography session at our Maryland photography studio. And now, look! Little Noemi isn't so little anymore. Instead, she's fast on her feet, running around and smiling up a storm! And while this last baby photography plan session took place a few months late when Noemi was 14 months old, it's never too late for a good ol' cake smash!
For this year's early fall family photography session, we met up at picturesque Sugarloaf Mountain in Dickerson, Maryland. The first 3/4 of our family photography session we spent on various groupings of family portraits. While Noah was pretty cranky at the beginning of the session, the bubble blower that we brought along for cases like this really turned him around.
And for the last 1/4 of our session, we set up Noemi's birthday smash cake on a flat rock in the midst of a stand of grass and trees, and it made for the perfect backdrop for Noemi's cake smash! We started with the birthday girl, then added her mom, then Noah, then her dad, ending with just her and big brother. These are seriously the cutest outdoor cake smash photos ever, are they not?! Look how pleased she and Noah are to have completely and utterly smashed the cake to smithereens, with no evidence of a smash cake left except for colorful cake bits all over hair, faces, hands, and feet. I deem this family photography & cake smash session a giant success!

This was our third time photographing Mr. Silver-Haired Cutie (...and our fourth time photographing his dad). From the time they found out they were expecting a baby, this cutie's mom & dad knew they wanted to capture his fleeting, once-in-a-lifetime, preciously priceless baby moments, especially in these first years when he would be growing and changing so fast. And so before he even arrived, they enrolled in one of our baby photography plans, and we have been watching Mr. Silver-Haired Cutie grow since his newborn photography session at 8 days new!
We had done Mr. Silver-Haired Cutie's previous baby photography session outdoors at Glenview Mansion in Rockville, MD, and this time, his mom & dad chose an indoor studio family photography session. We got on the phone a month or two before his session to brainstorm creative ideas and our imaginations ran wild. We decided on a fall theme with pumpkins and autumn decor to then be transformed into a "Rock Star" Halloween theme, non-themed family portraits on dad's favorite leather burgundy sofa with an orange-tan damask backdrop, and ending with a periwinkle-toned signature "Little Artist Paint Smash."
And on the day of their family photography session, they arrived with a 'rock star' Halloween outfit complete with rock star t-shirt, air guitar, guitar necklace, and best of all, spiked blue hair! I love those Halloween family photos, but most of all, I love the Little Artist Paint Smash photos! Afterwards, his mom commented on how much fun he'd had during this family photography session - particularly the paint smash - as he loves making messes! In fact, I loved that paint smash so much that in honor of Mr. Silver-Haired Cutie, we've now introduced signature 30-minute studio paint smash photography sessions for you too! You can choose either a full (1-hour) family photography session with a paint smash component like this family, or a 30-minute paint smash only photography session.
Check back next year, as I can't wait for Mr. Silver-Haired Cutie's Watch Me Blossom family photography session coming up in 2018!
And in the meantime, many thanks to Mr. Silver-Haired Cutie's mom for her awesome 5-star google review of our photography services!
Each year your children age, the memories of the previous year become ever more precious. By the time your children have grown, married, and have families of their own, the memories of their childhood have become absolutely priceless.
