From the vidhi ceremony on the first day of this 3-day Gujarati wedding, when female relatives converged on bride & groom to paint bare skin with stroke after stroke of a yellow turmeric-sandalwood-saffron paste… to the parade of women, with traditional Indian “pots” atop their heads… to the groom’s processional on the day of the Indian wedding ceremony, groom carried on the shoulders of two men… to the groom approaching the bride’s mother as she reaches out to apply red “tilak” to his forehead… to bride & groom, seated on the mandap, hands clasped… to the women who approach the newlywed couple to hug the bride and pinch the nose of the groom… to the elephant adorning the 3-tiered wedding cake… to the elaborate, sumptuous decor of both wedding ceremony and reception… to tears mingled with toasts… and to the joy of dance and celebration, this is one wedding that is truly unforgettable.
